What is The Bengston Method®?
The Bengston Energy Healing Method® is an innovative energy-based healing technique developed by researcher William Bengston, PhD. Energy moves from the practitioner to the client. The Method can be done from a distance, or using hands-on healing to engage the recipient’s energy system, which, in turn can affect the physical or emotional well-being. Dr. Bengston has written a popular book about his experiences, and some of his scientific research with the Method, The Energy Cure.
The Bengston Method® can be done, regardless of the practitioner’s or recipient’s beliefs – even their beliefs about the Method! The healing method is safe, and has shown astonishing results from physical and emotional disorders. Currently, there are over 100 practitioners worldwide treating diseases with the technique, including oncologists.
Science and Spirituality are Converging
Science and spirituality are finding common ground in many areas. One area is energy healing or energy work. Science has established that there is a measurable energy field that emanates from the body, coming from the heart, and other areas. (HeartMath Institute, and others). The Bengston method appears to work in a way similar to other energy techniques. It seems to affect the energy field in which the body is situated. This allows the body (or mind) to take what energy it needs, which may prompt the body to heal itself by shifting into a more ideal state of wellness. The practitioner does not do the work, the body itself seems to.
The History of the Bengston Method®
Dr. William Bengston encountered an intuitive and healer, who had spontaneously acquired healing ability through hands-on healing. As a scientist and researcher, Bengston was skeptical about alternative therapies. But, after he received his own healing of chronic back problems, he decided to conduct clinical research on the method.

Clinical Research
Dr. Bengston has conducted research into healing for over 35 years, and has proven the effectiveness of his technique in controlled animal experiments, conducted in seven university biological and medical laboratories. According to Beseme et al., (2018) Dr. Bengston has done more than a dozen experiments conducted in 6 different labs. The animals in the studies were completely and irreversibly healed.
He also has studied secondary correlates involving the effect of distance, dose, and whether healing can be stored in objects. He found that healing energy can be stored in water, or other materials, like cotton.
Studies were also conducted with human healers and patients to observe the effect of the technique on the brain activity of both the healers and the patients, using EEGs and fMRIs (Beseme et al., 2018). Physiological changes were recorded in both the healer and the patient.
Additional studies of the healer and the patient, both with the subject at a distance from, and in proximity of the healer, showed effects between the individuals. This included a harmonic frequency connection between the spectra, followed by EEG frequency entrainment, and then an instant EEG phase locking (Beseme et al., 2018). This suggests a direct connection between the healer and the patient that transcends space and distance.
The research continues today in numerous double-blind studies that continue to prove the effectiveness of the Method.
What happens During a Bengston Healing Session?
I am a Bengston Method practitioner, and was trained by Bill Bengston in 2022.
It is important to know that the number of Bengston sessions needed varies by the individual and what is being treated. It normally takes more than one session to see results, so a package of appointments is generally recommended.
Sessions can be performed virtually or in person. For virtual sessions, I conduct the treatment over Zoom or phone. Sessions are 60 minutes, and can be scheduled here, through my online scheduling system.
GARY CHATHAM MAKES NO CLAIMS AS TO DIAGNOSING, HEALING OR TREATING ANY DISEASE OR MEDICAL CONDITION. Though many have experienced great results with the Bengston Method and Reiki, he does not recommend that you substitute Reiki or the Bengston method for a physician’s care or medicine. No guarantee of a particular outcome is promised or implied.
