What if you could reduce your needs for mental health meds by 33%, your need for high blood pressure meds by 36%, and your need for asthma meds by 26%. What if I told you that this miracle therapy was free?
It is!
In a recent study published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, study participants who spent regular time in nature – green spaces, reduced their needs for medications by those percentages. This news was so good, it was even reported today by CNN.
Participants in the study that just drove by green spaces had no change in their needs for medications, but, out of the 6000 in the study, the ones that actually visited green spaced 3 – 4 times a week saw their needs for all those medications reduced. This practice is now being called “nature therapy.”
Counselors and therapists in Japan have been recommending this for their clients for years, as well. In fact, they call it shinrin-yoku or “forest bathing” or “taking in the forest atmosphere.”
I have long held that our connection with nature is not only healing for us emotionally and physically, but also can enhance and deepen our spirituality. In short, it helps our overall well-being. I try to integrate nature therapy into my work with my clients, as well.
